Compress an image in seconds

Step 1Add your photo

Drop, paste or pick a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC, up to 50 MB.

Step 2Pick how small

Balanced suits most photos. Smallest for strict upload limits, Best quality when it’s going to print.

Step 3Download

See the new size before you save. Your original stays exactly as it was.

Made for everyday limits

Email caps, upload forms and slow pages all want smaller photos.

Email and messages

Send the whole set of holiday photos without hitting the attachment limit.

Forms and applications

Job portals, visa forms and rental sites often cap photos at 1 or 2 MB.

Websites and shops

Lighter product and blog photos load faster, so visitors stay.

Reduce image size without losing the look

Most upload limits are about file size, not picture size. Here’s how to get under one and still have a photo you’re happy to send.

  • Compress JPEG photos

Phone and camera photos are usually JPGs. Start on Balanced and check the new size under the preview. Still too big? Switch to Smallest before changing anything else. At normal viewing size the difference is hard to spot, and the file drops again. Compress from the original when you can, because a JPG that has already been squeezed loses a little more each time.

  • Compress PNG screenshots and logos

A PNG keeps every detail exactly, which is why screenshots and logos get heavy. The compressor saves them as WebP, which keeps see-through backgrounds at a fraction of the size. Safari can’t save WebP, so there they become JPG and the see-through parts are filled in.

  • Compress an image to 100 KB

Strict forms often ask for 100 KB or less. Pick Smallest and set the longest side to 1280 px, because a smaller picture shrinks the file faster than anything else. The new size shows before you download. Still over? Trim empty edges with the Image Cropper, then compress again.

  • Lighter photos for your website

Most pages show photos no wider than a laptop screen, so a full-size phone photo is far more than they need. Set the longest side to 1920 px for wide banners or 1280 px for blog and product photos, keep Balanced, and your pages load quicker on phones. Search engines notice slow pages too, so lighter photos help people find your site as well as stay on it.

  • When a photo won’t get smaller

Some files have already been squeezed by an app or a website. If compressing wouldn’t save anything, we tell you instead of handing back a bigger file. Try Smallest, or a smaller longest side, which still works when the quality setting alone can’t.

  • Your photos stay on your device

Every photo is compressed by your own browser, so nothing is uploaded and there’s no queue to wait in. That also means no account, no daily limit and no watermark. Compress as many photos as you like, as often as you need.
